Planting Plans

We undertake Planting Plans for gardens which we have designed from scratch, as well as for established gardens in which the owners need a little help in problem areas.

Our plans give specific details of the plants to be used in a particular area and the number of plants required to create the right effect. Correct selection of plants is vital, not only to the look of the garden at all times of the year, but also in terms of the survival of plants, and their subsequent maintenance, which can become difficult if the wrong plants are chosen.

We spend a lot of time on our planting plans. We look at the site, the aspect and the soil. Then the height, spread and longevity of plants; their rates of growth, habit and maintenance requirements; as well as their performance in winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Apart from these technical aspects, artistry is required to create effective plant associations, which use their colour, form, texture and scent to create beautiful planting schemes.

There are many planting styles to choose from and it takes artistic

skill, horticultural expertise, and an in-depth

knowledge of plants to conjur up a cottage garden, a wildflower meadow, or an immaculate border the like of which we see at Chelsea or Hampton Court flower shows.

Maintenance

If requested, we can produce a Maintenance Schedule, which lists the plants and explains exactly how and when to look after them, as well as general notes about overall border maintenance. For example, it will tell you when and how to prune a wisteria, or train a rose for maximum flowering, or when to cut back, feed and mulch borders to get the best effect.
